On Monday, December 11th, the 7th, 8th and 9th grades visited the English theatre “Macbeth”. It was performed in the town hall of Linz by Vienna’s English Theatre Schooltours.
Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare and adapted by Clive Duncan. It’s one of his most famous tragedies, written around 1606. The tragedy is about the ambitious Scottish general Macbeth. Encouraged by prophecies from three witches and influenced by his wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth murdered the king to become king himself. However, guilt and paranoia consume him, leading to a downward spiral of violence and betrayal. Macbeth’s demise comes to a tragic end, illustrating the consequences of uncontrolled ambition and individual moral standards.
"Macbeth" remains a timeless exploration of human nature, ambition´s consequences, and the corrupting influence of power, making it a cornerstone of English literature and theatre.
The theatre was performed by 4 people who were uniformly dressed in black. However, there were not only four roles, but the actors played different roles.
Most students were a bit confused, as many scenes were difficult to understand. Because of the actor’s strong accent, they couldn’t understand many words. Nevertheless, students who had read the script beforehand, were able to follow the storyline well. All in all, it was a wonderful experience because the English group had an impressive stage design and did an amazing job.
